"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near." --Hebrews 10:24-25
The past few months I've felt like I'm on a mission. I'm at a place in my life where I'm done with anything and everything thats distracting me from the very thing that I have been called to do- to LOVE people and further the Kingdom of God. More than anything, I've been craving a community that shares those same passions. It's been hard though, the 20s are a huge transitioning season for a lot of young adults. Without even knowing it or wanting to we become consumed in our day to day lives focused on our new responsibilities, finishing college and getting the dream job, or simply finding our significant other. We've grown up in a very me-focused culture, which can be hard to escape, especially when you don't even see it within yourself. When I got married and had a baby, it was literally like God began ripping out every selfish part of me and continues to... It's been a huge life lesson. And during the process, I felt so alone, like everyone was still stuck in their self-focused bubbles talking and worrying about things that just simply didn't matter in the big picture of things. But I get it, I was just there too. In fact, it's a daily struggle I work through. It wasn't until recently that God gave me the revelation that if I stopped focusing on how to solve my problems, continued to do the right thing, and focused my energy on showing His love through acts and good works, that He would clearly direct my life according to His will- not mine. Naturally, I began searching for others who shared this same revelation... I wanted to surround myself with a community that Hebrews 10:24-25 talks about. That's when I stumbled upon Socality. They are people just like you and me, who have come together and are actively engaging in the movement that is Love. It's so simple, and I love it! The leaders of Socality are constantly creating an environment for the community to come together and encourage one another to use their gifts to make a difference in this world. There are so many people all over the world who are hurting, who need our help, and need to be shown the love of God! What better time to show them than now?
On March 21st, I attended my very first Socality meet up. It was down in Toledo, Ohio and about 60+ people showed up! It was incredible to just instantly connect and talk to so many new people who shared the same values and interests. The goal of this meet was to raise awareness about the lack of clean water all around the world. The Socality community ended up raising $12,000 and now 400 people have access to clean water! I came back feeling inspired and motivated to finish a side project I've been working on for awhile now... So without further-a-do, I'd like to introduce to you, Sonder Society!
--An online magazine highlighting the inspired storytellers- shakers, doers, joy-makers. And, a curated marketplace that supports the artisans, the ones who create purpose within their products.--
Sonder- the realization that everyone has their own story.
This inspired a lot of what is behind Sonder Society. The idea first started out with simply blogging about me and my best friends lives lol, but it soon grew to be so much more than that. I remembered an idea I had during my second year of college. I made a friend who was selling these beautiful bracelets made in Haiti to raise money for her to go there and teach the locals valuable skills to support themselves. Growing up doing missions this was all too familiar (fundraising for good causes) and it made me think... What if there was one place where products like these could be sold and people like my friend could easily fund themselves to go on these trips and make a positive impact on people in need? Cue -Sonder Society. So, I'm currently curating a marketplace selling hope-filled products that support great causes. If all continues to go well, the store will be launched in June! As for now, I will be launching the blog/magazine within the next two weeks so keep a look out and follow @sondersociety on Instagram for more updates and inspiration.
